Preparations begin for Saturday’s meeting with SC Freiburg

The Foals began training on Tuesday ahead of this weekend’s match at home against SC Freiburg (Saturday, 15:30 CET).

The Foals assembled at BORUSSIA-PARK for a 90-minute session on Tuesday as preparations began for Saturday’s home game against SC Freiburg. Missing from the group were Julian Weigl (partial syndesmosis ligament rupture) and Tony Jantschke (meniscus tear), with the latter undergoing a successful surgery last Friday. Head coach Daniel Farke was without four goalkeepers today, with Jonas Omlin (thigh), Jan Olschowsky (thumb tendon injury and flu), Tobias Sippel (knock) and Max Brüll (thigh) all absent. Academy goalkeepers Ben Zich and Tiago Pereira Cardoso instead helped out in training today.

“It’s obviously not ideal to have four goalkeepers absent at the same time. We are confident that Jan and Tobi will be able to return by Thursday at the latest. We are also hoping that Jonas will be able to return in time for Saturday,” Farke said. Marcus Thuram completed an individual session today due to a calf issue. “We’re hoping that he will be feeling better tomorrow so that we can increase his workload and maybe even have him return to team training,” the coach added.

The team will have four more training sessions this week. The Foals will train outdoors on Wednesday (11:15 CET), followed by a session in the Performance Centre (15:45 CET, behind closed doors). Farke will then welcome his side back to the training ground on Thursday (10:45 CET). The final training session of the week will take place behind closed doors on Friday.
