Foals to go on end of season tour

Borussia will go on an end-of-season tour after their last Bundesliga matchdays. Alongside two friendlies against FC Oberneuland and Halleschen FC, there will also be a visit to the memorial site of Bergen-Belsen and 'meet the fans' in Aken.

Before the Foals go on their summer holidays after the 2022/23 Bundesliga seaon, there will be a three-part end of season tour. This will start on 29th May (15:00 CEST) with a friendly at the Marko-Mock-Arena against FC Oberneuland. The team from the Oberliga in Bremen and Borussia were drawn against each other in the first round of the DFB-Pokal during the 2020/21 season. Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, FCO had to give up their right to a home game and played Gladbach at BORUSSIA-PARK, with the Foals winning 8-0. With Oberneuland unable to generate any revenue from the game, Borussia agreed to play the fifth-divison team again once the pandemic was over.

Days after, the squad will visit the memorial site of Bergen-Belsen in the morning. Bergen-Belsen was a concentration camp under the Nazis from 1943 until 1945. More than 50,000 people died in Bergen-Belsen due to the living conditions before it was liberated by British soldiers on 15th April 1945. For thousands, it was a transit point before they were transported to their deaths in extermination camps. After the visit to the memorial site there will be a lunch together in the museum café, where the Borussia players will be able to discuss their thoughts.

During the afternoon the team will then travel around 200 km away to Aken (Elbe) in Saxony-Anhalt. Heiko Kuntz, FPMG regional representative for East Germany has organised a meet with the fans, with members of fan clubs from the region being invited to attend. During a barbecue at FC Stahl Aken’s club grounds, supporters will be able to talk to Borussia players, collect autographs and take pictures. “We had been planning to pay a visit to our numerous fans in East Germany for some time, so we are very happy that at the end of May we will finally put this plan into action,” said Borussia’s fan representative Thomas ‘Tower’ Weinmann. The Foals will finish their tour on Wednesday 31st May (19:00 CEST) with another friendly this time against third-division Hallescher FC at the Leuna-Chemie-Stadion.
