Chiarodia: “The whole package at Borussia suited me”

In his first interview at Borussia, new signing Fabio Chiarodia spoke about his first impressions of the Foals, the reasons for his move and his strengths as a player.

Welcome, Fabio! What are your first impressions of Borussia?

Chiarodia: It’s been a very good first impression in every aspect. It’s all welcoming here, everyone is very polite and friendly. I can’t wait to play in front of a full house soon.

What were the reasons for your move to Borussia?

Chiarodia: The overall package at Borussia suited me best, both as a person and a footballer. I’ve played here before with Werder, the fans and the atmosphere were great back then. That was also important to me.

You already mentioned it, but you made your first start in the Bundesliga at BORUSSIA-PARK. What memories do you have of that day?

Chiarodia: I still remember the day very clearly. When we set off in Bremen, I couldn’t believe that I would be playing from the start. Then everything went very quickly, we arrived at the hotel and later drove to the stadium. I took in the whole stadium when we were walking out. When the game started, I was fully focused on the game, but I could notice the fans whenever we stopped, which wasn’t bad.

What else are you looking forward to in particular?

Chiarodia: I’m just looking forward to doing my best for this great and traditional club, having a lot of fun and developing myself personally.

How would you describe yourself as a player?

Chiarodia: I would say that I am a modern centre-back, so strong with the ball at my feet. I try to play the ball in many circumstances, but of course as a defender you also have to get the ball clear sometimes and have a presence in challenges.

Have you already spoken with the new coach?

Chiarodia: Yes, I’ve already spoken to Gerardo Seoane on the phone a few times. We haven’t met in person yet, but he makes a very good impression. I’m really looking forward to working with him and my new team.

The other boys are still on holiday at the moment, but for you it’s straight into the European Championship. What do your next few days look like now?

Chiarodia: I am currently preparing for the U19 European Championship in Malta with the Italy U19 national side in Florence. Of course, we’d like to go as far as possible in that.
