Who will take to the field with which shirt number during the 2023/24 season? Here’s an overview:
Who will wear which shirt number next season? Will the old guard retain their number from years gone by? And which numbers will Borussia’s new signings carry on their backs? Sporting director Nils Schmadtke explains: “There are for example players who’ve been here for a long time who’ve come to us wanting to wear a new number in the new season. We were able to fulfil those requests.”
Kramer and Neuhaus with new numbering
One of these players is Christoph Kramer. The midfielder, who had previously sported the 6, will now wear the number 23. “This number has a very special meaning for me, as I won the World Cup with it in 2014. Therefore, after Jonas Hofmann’s transfer I asked the club whether I could get my old shirt number back, which I wore at Borussia from 2013 to 2015. I’m happy that it worked and I can feature for Borussia with the number 23 again,” said Kramer.
As part of the process of his contract extension, Florian Neuhaus has also decided on a new number. The midfielder will wear the 10 from now on. “I had the number as a youth player at 1860 Munich and always felt comfortable with it. Now it’s become free, the opportunity has come up nicely,” says the 26-year-old. Until next Friday you can get Florian Neuhaus’ name and number free when purchasing a new jersey.
New signing Maximilian Wöber will sport the number 39, Robin Hack has chosen the 25, Tomáš Čvančara has decided on the 31 and Fabio Chiarodia the 2. Lukas Ullrich will turn out with the 26 for Borussia, Grant-Leon Ranos with the 28 and Franck Honorat will wear the VfL jersey with the number 9 on the back.
