Borussia extend Rocco Reitz’s contract until 2026

Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended the contract of home-grown talent Rocco Reitz until 30th June 2026, with it previously having been set to expire in 2024.

“Rocco has really earned this considering his development in the past few months,” says Borussia’s managing director for sport Roland Virkus. “He is a very ambitious player with a top mentality, who has also made an important step in footballing terms. And last but not least, I’m really happy that he’s a local boy who came to Borussia at the age of seven.”

“I’m very happy to have extended my contract. I’ve spent more than half my life at Borussia and the club has been my second home for a long time,” explains Reitz. “It makes me proud that I can live my dreams here and I’m thankful for that.”

A Foal for over ten years

Reitz joined Borussia when he was just seven years old and passed through the club’s entire academy set-up. The midfielder was selected for the first team squad on multiple occasions throughout the 2020/21 season, making his Bundesliga debut on the 24th October 2020 away to 1. FSV Mainz 05. An injury put him out of action for multiple weeks during the second half of the season, meaning he ‘only’ made one more brief appearance for the first team and six for the U23s.

Reitz spent a year on loan at VV St. Truiden during the 2021/22 season, scoring two goals for the Belgian club in 23 top-flight appearances. Last season, Reitz returned to the Foals. After making two brief appearances in the first half of the season, he rejoined VV St. Truiden in the second half of the season in order to secure more game time. He scored one goal in twelve league games in his second spell with the Belgian club.

Reitz returned to Mönchengladbach feeling invigorated, where he demonstrated during pre-season that he had made crucial progress during his time abroad. He pressed his case for playing time with good performances in training and in friendlies, and he didn’t have to wait long to get his chance. Reitz has featured in all four Bundesliga games so far – he came off the bench in the closing stages against Augsburg and Leverkusen, whilst recently starting the games against Bayern München and SV Darmstadt.
