U23 quartet join the senior squad in training

In the absence of various players on international duty, four players from Borussia’s U23 squad joined up with the first team for the new week of training, which began on Monday morning.

There will be fewer bodies on the training pitch this week, with ten Borussia players away on international duty. Nine of them have already joined up with their national squads and Rocco Reitz was also added to the Germany U21 side today. Gerardo Seoane will have to make do with just 12 senior players in training and so the Swiss invited Tony Reitz, Jacob Italiano, Ryan Naderi and Shio Fukuda from the Foals’ U23 side to train with the first team.

Nico Elvedi is currently out injured with a knee sprain, which is why he is has not travelled with the rest of the Switzerland squad. Christoph Kramer is also still recovering from his MCL strain. “We hope that Nico will continue to recover well in the coming days. Chris will carry on training individually; it’s still too early at the moment to throw him into team training,” said Seoane.

Jantschke will be back in team training soon

Tony Jantschke (muscle problems) completed individual drills today, but will soon be back involved in team training. “Tony picked up a knock in training last week, which caused him muscle problems. However, it wasn’t a serious injury, so we reckon that he’ll be able to return to team training in the coming days.”

Borussia will train three more times this week, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and will also contest a friendly against Belgian first-division side VV St. Truiden on Thursday (13:00 CEST, live on YouTube).
