Read what Rocco Reitz, Christoph Kramer and both head coaches had to say following the Foals 4-2 loss against Borussia Dortmund
Rocco Reitz: “I was really happy with the first half an hour. We started well and took our chances. Then, Dortmund were ruthless and punished the little mistakes we made. We didn’t feel good going into the break after conceding three goals. It took us a while to process what happened and the beginning of the second half wasn’t great. We gradually started to control the game more, but it just wasn’t enough. Now, we need to analyse our mistakes and make sure we do things right in future. We’re disappointed, but we didn’t play too badly on the whole and there are things we can build on.“
Christoph Kramer: “I took a big risk with the shot and the ball went just wide. When you go 2-0 up against Dortmund, it’s really annoying to trail 3-2 at the break. If we had been winning 2-0 for longer, the crowd would have started to get nervous, which would have made things harder for the home side. They got some momentum after they got one back and could’ve scored another goal before the break. If it was all square at half time, nobody would have had many complaints, especially given how the first 35 minutes went. The important thing was that we had the chance to pick up some more points. It’s a sign that we’re heading in the right direction.”
Gerardo Seoane: “We played very precise, accurate football for the first 30 minutes and we deserved to take the lead. Dortmund started to be more efficient after that and showed their quality. We were lucky not to go even further behind at the start of the second half, but Moritz Nicolas made some spectacular saves to keep it 3-2. We had more control towards the end of the game and had the opportunity to deliver a sucker punch and equalise. We’ve got to work on not letting our leads slip. There are always a few areas where we can improve. All in all, it was a step in the right direction for us and I’ve got to give credit to my team for their performance.”
Edin Terzic (BVB head coach): “First and foremost, I need to give the team credit for staying motivated and energised after going 2-0 down. We competed for the ball more after conceding the second goal and played really well. That being said, we could’ve added to our lead, especially at the start of the second half. As a result, there was a nervy moment at the end of the game, but we hung on and managed to win.”
