Rocco Reitz wins Borussia’s Goal of the Year 2023

Academy graduate Rocco Reitz’s goal against SV Werder Bremen has been voted as Borussia’s Goal of the Year 2023 by the fans. The 21-year-old’s goal to put his side 2-1 up against Werder narrowly prevailed against goals from Lars Stindl and Manu Koné.

It was a strike which deserved more than one goal: Borussia turned a 1-0 deficit around in their last home game ahead of the winter break against Werder Bremen as they went 2-1 up (2-2 draw). The goal in the 48th minute was brilliant both in terms of its creation and the shot itself. The Foals launched a wonderful attack through Luca Netz and Alassane Plea before shifting the ball right to Robin Hack. Despite finding himself in a good shooting position, Hack had the vision to pick out Rocco Reitz, who was in an even better position. Borussia’s academy graduate turned Olivier Deman before applying a cool finish.

Reitz narrowly won the fan vote for Borussia’s Goal of the Year 2023, finishing in first place with approximately 28% of the vote. Lars Stindl’s goal in the 3-2 loss against Bayer Leverkusen in the 22/23 season (25%) and Manu Koné’s strike to make it 1-0 in extra time in the DFB-Pokal quarter final against VfL Wolfsburg (23%) came second and third respectively.
