#BMGSVD: Match reaction

After the 0-0 draw between Borussia and SV Darmstadt, we have the reactions of Nico Elvedi, Julian Weigl, Max Wöber, Patrick Herrmann and the two head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Torsten Lieberknecht.

Nico Elvedi: We didn’t actually play badly and we let in very little at the back. In attack, we had good chances where we should have scored a goal. That sadly wasn’t to be. Now, we have to look forward to the next game in Leipzig and give everything again there. It’s definitely a positive that we kept a clean sheet. We defended well and were solid at the back. We have to build on that and be just as compact in every game.

Max Wöber: We’re not happy with the result. We weren’t bad, but ‘not bad’ isn’t enough in the Bundesliga. We created two or three really good chances which could have won us the game. At the end of the game, we won corner after corner, but we didn’t execute them well enough. A clean sheet is always a good thing for a defender, but we still have room for improvement.

Julian Weigl: We’re disappointed with the result, because a draw isn’t good enough from our perspective. We really wanted the three points, and we had the chances to decide the game in our favour. We unfortunately couldn’t manage to turn our superiority into goals however. In the first half, we were too slow and ponderous, which we weren’t happy about at all. Despite this, we had two big chances that we didn’t take. The second half was better, but overall it was still not enough.

Patrick Herrmann: We were maybe missing a bit of luck. We piled on the pressure at the end, played it in again and again and also tried to win the second balls. But it just wasn’t to be. I think we did a lot right in the second half. In the first, we could definitely have done one or two things better. Darmstadt did well defensively, sat deep and closed off the space. Because of this, we had few chances and they themselves tried to counter. The match therefore ended goalless.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: We’re disappointed with the result and that we didn’t make more of the chances we created. We were just too untidy in a lot of areas. Nevertheless, there were enough situations where we could have scored a goal. But in these situations, we were lacking calmness and composure. It’s a positive that we kept a clean sheet, because Darmstadt also had one or two dangerous moments. We’ll take the point and try to do better next time.

Head coach Torsten Lieberknecht (SV Darmstadt 98): It’s a good point for us after a good defensive performance. We filled the spaces well at the back, pressed well and were in the game. We also had two or three efforts on goal, but over the full 90, we failed to create more and better chances. Of course we had a bit of luck on our side in one or two situations, such as the chance for Jordan. The point feels okay and gives us optimism as we continue on our path.
