Hannes Wolf moves to New York City FC

After spending three and a half years at the club, Hannes Wolf has left Borussia Mönchengladbach and will join MLS side New York City with immediate effect.

“Hannes never made the mark that he and the club had expected him to make at Gladbach for a variety of reasons, not least due to several injuries,” said Roland Virkus, Gladbach’s managing director for sport. “We wish Hannes all the best for his new challenge in the MLS and for the rest of his career.”

Hannes Wolf was initially loaned to the club from RB Leipzig in summer 2020. He made 32 appearances in his first season at the club, scoring three goals. In addition, he played in seven Champions League matches and four DFB-Pokal games (one goal). The attacker signed a permanent deal ahead of the 2020/21 season. He played eight times for the Foals before moving on loan to Swansea City for the second half of the season, where he bagged two goals in 19 games. The Austrian returned to Mönchengladbach last season and scored once in 18 Bundesliga matches. The 24-year-old hasn’t played a competitive game for the Foals this season.
