Stindl named Borussia’s Player of the Month for December

Borussia fans have voted for Lars Stindl as their Player of the Month for December. The captain beat out fellow nominees Alassane Plea, Yann Sommer, Breel Embolo and László Bénes.

To close out the year, fans selected Lars Stindl as their Player of the Month for December. The captain received 80 per cent of all votes, ahead of Yann Sommer (7%), Alassane Plea (5%), László Bénes (4%) and Breel Embolo (3%).

Stindl was in top form in December, winning two back-to-back Man of the Match awards. The 32-year-old single-handedly helped rescue a point for the Foals on matchday 12, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt. On that occasion, Stindl was named Man of the Match with 93 per cent of the vote. Stindl gave Borussia the lead with a free-kick from 25 metres out. Frankfurt then went on to take a 3-1 lead, but the team did not give up. Stindl got one back late from the spot, before heading in a last-minute equaliser following a cross from Ibrahima Traoré. Head coach Marco Rose was full of praise for Stindl after the game, saying “Lars is and remains a key player. He’s someone who always leads the way.”

Stindl then scored Borussia’s lone goal of the game in a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim the following weekend, and was once again named the Man of the Match. His penalty gave the Foals the lead.
