Jordan Beyer extends his contract until 2026

Borussia have agreed a contract extension with academy product Jordan Beyer. The 21-year-old defender, who joined the club aged 15, signed his new deal running until 2026 on Wednesday at BORUSSIA-PARK.

“We’re delighted that Jordan has signed a new contract,” said sporting director Max Eberl. “He’s a real defensive talent and had earned a place in the side until his injury. We’re glad to have him back on the training ground again.”

Jordan Beyer joined Borussia’s academy aged 15. He made his competitive first-team debut in August 2018 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal at BSC Hastedt, going on to make nine league appearances in the Bundesliga that season. He featured three times in the league in the first half of 2019/20 (plus in one DFB-Pokal game), before moving on loan to Hamburger SV for the second half of that season. The defender played four times in the Bundesliga last term.

Beyer established himself under Adi Hütter this season, playing in six of the first nine Bundesliga games this season, as well as the DFB-Pokal match against Bayern. Unfortunately, Beyer suffered a muscle injury in that win and hasn’t been able to appear since. He tested positive for Covid-19 during the winter break and was self-isolating, however he is now negative and was able to train individually on Wednesday.

Jordan, congratulations on extending your contract at Borussia. How do you feel just after signing the deal?

Beyer: I’m really happy. Staying at my boyhood club is a great feeling. I grew up at this club, I’ve been here since my youth and I’m a supporter too. There’s nothing better than this for me right now.

There were talks of a possible loan move for you in August, but that never materialised. How have the last few months been for you?

Beyer: There have been some tough times for me, before the season started too. Considering that, I’m even happier that this has happened now and that my hard work has paid off. I know I’ve got chances to play now as well. Things would be even nicer if we could get back on track as a team.

You came into the side on matchday 3 and then only missed one game up until your injury. How were those weeks for you?

Beyer: It was a great first half of the season for me personally – probably the best one I’ve ever had. I’m proud of what happened in the games I played and how we won some tough matches, the Bayern one in particular. Unfortunately, that was the last game I’ve played to date, but up until then it was a great period for me.

You want to get back on the pitch after the winter break. What are your expectations for the second half of the season?

Beyer: Nobody doubts that we are capable, however we didn’t play to our best at the end of the first half of the season. We’ll analyse things and give our all to start having some success again.
