Torben Müsel joins KAS Eupen on loan

Borussia Mönchengladbach have agreed to loan Torben Müsel to Belgian first-division side KAS Eupen on a six-month deal. The 22-year-old attacker has also extended his contract, which was set to run out at the end of the season, until June 2024.

“After struggling with injury, Torben has undergone a strong development this season and will need playing time at a high level. He will be able to get that over the next months in Belgium’s Jupiler League. We wish him all the best at Eupen,” said sporting director Max Eberl.

Torben Müsel joined Borussia in summer 2018 from 1. FC Kaiserslautern, making 30 appearances in the Regionalliga for the Borussia U23s in his first season at the club (8 goals). He then suffered a knee injury the following season, and was sidelined for several months. Müsel made his comeback on matchday 28 in the Regionalliga on 8th March 2020, before the season was first postponed and then later cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Three and a half months later, he made his Bundesliga debut for the Foals, coming off the bench on the penultimate matchday of the season away at Paderborn.

Müsel was sidelined by another lengthy injury last season, making just one cameo for the U23s. But, the 22-year-old worked hard to get back to full fitness and as made 12 appearances for the Borussia U23s in 2021/22 (8 goals). He made one Bundesliga appearance for the Foals this term, coming off the bench to replace Jonas Hofmann in the 86th minute against Fürth on matchday 12 (4-0 win).
