Lars Stindl, Jonas Omlin, Ko Itakura or Jonas Hofmann – who will claim the title of Borussia’s player of the month for January? From now until Thursday at 23:59 CET, you can vote for your favourite in the FohlenApp.

The Foals have played a total of three Bundesliga games in January. A 3-2 defeat in the Bundesliga restart was followed by a 1-0 defeat to FC Augsburg, before a 4-1 win against TSG Hoffenheim. Lars Stindl, Jonas Omlin and Jonas Hofmann have been nominated in relation to their performances in these games. Also on the list is Ko Itakura, who has impressed again following his first three 90 minutes after a long injury break.

Lars Stindl: In the first game after the break against Leverkusen, Lars Stindl initially found himself on the bench. He came on in the 54th minute and scored a brace to put the Foals in touching distance of coming back from the 3-0 deficit that existed when he took to the field. Unfortunately, the captain saw his fifth yellow card in the final stages of the game in Augsburg. Stindl returned to the starting eleven in Hoffenheim and showed his importance to the team, laying on two assist for both of Jonas Hofmann’s goals, and scoring the third himself.

Jonas Omlin: The Switzerland international joined Gladbach on 19th January from HSC Montpellier as a replacement for Yann Sommer, who moved to Bayern Munich in the winter break. Despite not having long to settle in, the goalkeeper has already proved how reliable he is in his first three games in a Foals shirt. He made a number of good saves against Leverkusen and Augsburg, and was powerless to prevent the goals scored against him. The 29-year-old was able to celebrate his first win with his new team in Hoffenheim.

Ko Itakura: At the end of the first half of the season, Ko Itakura was out injured for over two months. He made his return to the pitch with a cameo appearance against Dortmund before playing for the Japan national team at the World Cup in November and December. Head coach Daniel Farke has called upon the Japan international yet again in the New Year, with Itakura taking on a key role in organising Borussia’s back four. With his commitment and strength in duels, he has helped the defensive stability of the side. He also claimed an assist in the 3-2 loss against Leverkusen.

Jonas Hofmann: January has been a rollercoaster ride for Jonas Hofmann. The 30-year-old worked really hard against Leverkusen, but was just unable to provide that decisive attacking spark. The Germany international was then ruled out of contention against Augsburg due to illness. It was touch-and-go as to whether he would play against Hoffenheim right up until kick-off. Luckily enough for Borussia, Hofmann was fit in time. In the first half, he scored twice and paved the way to a win for the Foals. In the final phase of the game, he also assisted Stindl’s goal to make it 3-1, before coming off for a well earned rest.
