Neuhaus: “It’s a really painful defeat”

Florian Neuhaus was interviewed after Borussia’s 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig, and the midfielder spoke about the game as a whole, his return to the starting XI, and the upcoming home match against SV Werder Bremen.

Florian Neuhaus on…

…the match in Leipzig: Of course, it’s not a good feeling to lose 3-0 in Leipzig. I think we implemented our game plan fairly well in the first half and at the start of the second half. We had a lot of chances to take the lead, the biggest of all coming from our penalty after the break, which we unfortunately didn’t take. Then, just a few minutes later, we fell behind and were subsequently unable to get back into the game and turn it around. We ended up on the wrong end of a 3-0 result.

...the reasons for the defeat: You have to say that we unfortunately made the wrong decisions in decisive moments. Lots of Leipzig players were involved in their build-up play, but Tikus and I were able to control them from the front rather well, and that meant we had more players than them in defence. RB had too many set pieces for my liking, though. For a long time, it was an open game, and we had a lot of good chances, particularly on the counterattack. It’s therefore a really painful defeat.

...his return to the starting XI six months after partially rupturing his posterior cruciate ligament: Obviously it was great to be able to start a match again, and I was really pleased to be named in the team. I’m feeling good and am not at all thinking about the injury. However, my main priority is the team result, and we got an unwanted one today. Therefore, I’m not happy with how the day has panned out. I’d have loved to have won because that would have nicely rounded off my return to the starting XI.

...Alassane Plea: Unfortunately, days like his can happen in football. Apart from the two big moments, Lasso actually had a good game. Football is often about fine margins, but looking ahead, Lasso is experienced enough to put it behind him, so I’m not worried.

...our next fixture: Next week brings another game, and ours is at home against Werder Bremen. We obviously need to closely analyse the Leipzig defeat and then prepare well for the Bremen game. We absolutely want to win this final home game before the international break.

Six months after partially rupturing his cruciate ligament against SC Freiburg, Florian Neuhaus made his return to the Gladbach starting XI.
