#BMGRBL: Match reaction

After the narrow 1-0 defeat in the home game against RB Leipzig, we have the reactions of Max Wöber and Rocco Reitz, as well as both head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Marco Rose.

Maximilian Wöber: We gave everything. I had a good feeling during the training week and that was backed up by the game. We showed a completely different side of ourselves than in the first half in Darmstadt. As we had to fight a lot for the ball, we were sometimes a bit too frantic going forward. But we always managed to be dangerous from set pieces. Although we couldn’t get a point, it was a step in the right direction. We have to build on this in the away game at Bochum.

Rocco Reitz: We can take a few things away from the game. When you compare it to the match in Darmstadt, we’ve made a step in the right direction. We executed our game plan well for long periods. There were chances at both ends, so a draw would probably have been a fair result at the end. In the build-up to the goal, we lost concentration once and the opponent also had a bit of luck – and suddenly we were 1-0 down. But I think we brought a mentality to the pitch that the fans also enjoyed. We’ll have to do that again in Bochum next week. We’ll also have to create even more chances there and then take them.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: I have to compliment my team for their performance. They made a step forwards compared to last week. We remained very compact, fought the individual battles well and defended strongly. However, we were maybe a little messy, too hasty in attacking situations. We were dangerous from set pieces again and again though. We could definitely have scored one or more goals. Especially in terms of the goal we conceded, we made two or three wrong decisions. Against an opponent like Leipzig, you have to have a perfect game and not make any mistakes. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do that.

Head coach Marco Rose (RB Leipzig): It was a difficult game with a good result for us. In the first half, we lost the ball too easily in some phases and played too erratically. Gladbach stayed nice and compact. From the 45th minute onwards, we were dominant, even though we didn’t have many goalscoring chances. Then we brought on Timo, whose qualities we of course know. He took his goal very impressively. In the end, it was a very hard-earned win.
