#SGEBMG: Match reaction

After the 2-1 defeat in Frankfurt, we have the reactions of Robin Hack, Julian Weigl and the two head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Dino Toppmöller.

Robin Hack: This defeat is very painful for us. Until the last minute, we tried to defend with our lives to protect the lead and then the draw, and at the end we’re going home empty-handed. The red card for Max Wöber sort of knocked the wind out of our sails. Up until then, we were relatively comfortable and had hardly conceded any chances. In the second half, we should have been a bit better on the ball and tried to ease the pressure a bit more. Our record after 16 matchdays has turned out mixed. We’ve done a few things really well, but also a lot not so well. Of course, we can learn from the games and draw conclusions from them. After the winter break, we’ll come out firing again in the new year.

Julian Weigl: I’m incredibly frustrated that we’re leaving empty-handed. When you’re ahead for so long, defending nearly everything and conceding hardly any chances, you’ve got to hold on to the lead. And when you let in such a late equaliser, you have to do everything you can to make sure you take away at least a point. We didn’t manage that and it hurts a lot. We’ve let a lead slip late on multiple times this season. That can happen with a young team, but we also have to improve in that regard. Stopping doing this has to be our aim for the second half of the season.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: This defeat is very tough for us to take. When you’re ahead for so long and then completely throw it away in injury time, it’s extremely disappointing and also a bit frustrating. We performed well for long periods, were very compact and gave Frankfurt no room. At times, we also countered and played good football. Of course, the red card for Max Wöber had an impact on the game, but we should have defended the situations that led to the goals better, even with a man fewer.

Head coach Dino Toppmöller (Eintracht Frankfurt): In the first half, we were missing the energy we needed and it was obvious that we’d played a lot of games in the past few days. Borussia defended well and went ahead not undeservedly from a corner, even though we knew that they were very dangerous from set pieces. In the second half, we got back to our highest level and brought the freshness we needed into the game with the substitutions. Of course, the red card helped us to turn the match around. The result is definitely a little bit lucky, but we’re happy to have won the game.
